The 1. Of April 2003, after approx. 25 years of duty The HF global mission on North-mountain was shut down, and Keflavik on Iceland took over.
From a staff on 16 men on shifting duty 24/7-365 in 1978, The mission was slowed down to a staff on 3 men 8 hours a day 7 days a week. Last man on duty, was Henrik Jensen. It has been his work spot for nearly 2 years. Henrik started already the next day on a new job on “main base”.
Free view to bunnies and foxes.
Building #1696, and Building #1971 will be stripped from all equipment and made "cold" also all outdoors antennas will be removed. The three ARCTEC Controllers in building #112 will be moved to other jobs.
When all material and equipment on North-mountain is removed it is expected that we can get full allowance to the former "Controlled Area" and the area will after all be used for recreational purposes, where there are a lot of snow bunnies and arctic foxes.
Last man closes.
It was Michael Teckemeier who got the honor to disconnect all the circuits on main switch under supervision of Claus Jensen and with his 2 colleges and supervisor Sejr Munk as by watchers…
